China Denies US Reports That it is Strengthening its Nuclear Arms at A Rapid Pace

A senior arms control officer of China denied the assertions made by US officials that China is rapidly expanding its Nuclear arsenal. The official said that China is modernizing the forces.

The senior arms control officer of China gave this information during a conference that took place in Beijing, China on Nuclear arms control.  The briefing was held to following the day after France, Britain, Russia, US, and China issued a joint statement on preventing wars or production of arms and ammunitions. The statement was supposed to be issued to the start of the U.N global conference on disarmament.

However, the meeting was postponed due to the rising cases of new Omicron variant across the world.The US Department of Defense said in a report that the Chinese Defense is expanding its Nuclear force at rapid pace and could have over 1,000 warheads. The department also raised concerns over the image captured through satellite stating that China is building missile silos. The Chinese officials did not give any clarity regarding the claims and images but said that satellite images cannot define the size of the force.
