Israeli Army Drone Falls in Syrian Territory Due to Technical Error

The Army reported that an Israeli Army Drone fell into Syrian territory on Wednesday evening due to a technical failure. The technical failure occurred on a routine operation and the incident is being investigated to determine the cause of the accident. They also predict whether the information could have leaked from the unmanned device.

An Israeli Army Drone in July fell to the ground in Lebanese territory as a result of a technical problem. In February a similar incident occurred in Lebanon during a military operation on the border, and a drone was also lost over Lebanon in August of 2020.  Lebanon’s Shi’ite Hezbollah militia movement claimed to have downed and recovered the unmanned aircraft near the border.

Israeli defence contractor Israel Aerospace Industries has revealed a remote-controlled armed robot it says can patrol battle zones, track infiltrators and open fire. The vehicle was revealed on Monday as the latest addition to the world of drone technology. It is rapidly reshaping the modern battlefield. Proponents have said such semi-autonomous machines allow armies to protect their soldiers, while critics fear this marks another dangerous step towards robots making life-or-death decisions. The four-wheel-drive robot presented Monday was developed by the state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries’ “REX MKII”.

Rani Avni, deputy head of the company’s autonomous systems division said that it is operated by an electronic tablet and can be equipped with two machine guns, cameras and sensors. The new device can collect intelligence for ground troops, carry injured soldiers and supplies in and out of battle, and attack nearby targets.
