Key Leadership Appointments in Aerospace Underwriting Announced by AXA XL

Thisiani Matsumura-Martins has been named Global Chief Underwriting Officer, Aerospace at AXA XL. She will report to Nancy Bewlay, Global Chief Underwriting Officer, and work closely with the Regional Business Units to establish and review underwriting strategic direction and profitability for Aerospace, starting April 1st and based in Sao Paulo. Ms. Matsumura-Martins brings 27 years of insurance and reinsurance experience to the table.

She has worked as an underwriter in a variety of business lines, including Aerospace, Property, Construction, Marine, Personal Accident, and Life, at Allianz and Liberty. She began her career at AXA XL in 2014 as the Technical Director for Brazil, subsequently becoming the Chief of Staff for Latin America. She is currently the temporary Regional Leader for AXA XL in Latin America and the Country Manager for Brazil, where she is assisting in the integration of AXA’s operations.

Tom Callahan has also been appointed to Global Head of Underwriting Management and Chief Underwriting Officer of Aviation. Mr. Callahan will report to Ms. Matsumura-Martins and will be based in New York. Since 2006, Mr. Callahan has been a member of AXA XL Aerospace division, most recently as the Global Head of Underwriting Management.

He will have more responsibility and administration of the technical underwriting strategy for Aviation in his new capacity. Mr. Callahan has worked in the aerospace insurance and reinsurance industry for more than three decades, covering all aspects of the industry. He graduated from Manhattan College with a bachelor’s degree in finance and an MBA from Pace University.
