Tim Vines Confirmed as the Member of Auburn University

The Alabama Senate confirmed a new member of the Auburn University Board of Trustees on Thursday. University officials say the Senate unanimously approved Tim Vines, President, and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama.

He is going to replace Lloyd Austin, who resigned in January after he was elected as the nation’s defense secretary. His history has been one to prosper. He rose through management ranks with the company and elected to his current position in 2018. The LaFayette native has been with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama since 1994.

“In addition to his business and management credentials, the Trustee Selection Committee nominated Tim Vines for the position because of his dedication to Auburn University and its students,” said Wayne Smith, who serves as board president pro tem. The University asserted that the selection committee was composed of Auburn Trustees Wayne Smith and James Pratt and two members of the Auburn Alumni Association’s board of directors, Regenia Sanders and Van Henley as well as Gov. Kay Ivey.

Vines will complete the last three of Austin’s seven-year term which is set to expire on April 8, 2024. Vines has done some thorough work on what could be an extensive career as a new member of the Board of Trustees. Vines would take over from the trusted member, who has seen major improvements at the University. He faces an uphill task at his frontier to maintain the standards. Lloyd Austin, the current Defense Secretary of the United States believes that the successor should be competent with the stringent laws that were augmented as soon as the Board of Trustees was established for better performance and recognition.
