U.S Airbase in Iraq Attacked By Drone, Raises Concerns

The U.S Airbase in Iraq named Ain al-Asad  Airbase was attacked this weekend by a drone. No human casualty has been reported, but the series of attacks are becoming very common. The last strike happened 18 months ago.

Iraq, which had done a blast of ballistic missiles on the U.S Airbase on January 8, 2020, had done the strike following the killing of Qassem Soleimani, the Iranian general. The general was killed in the drone strike by the U.S. According to the reports, 16 missiles were fired by the Iraq drone strike. Out of 16, 11 missiles hit the U.S Airbase.

The ballistic missiles had caused severe damage. It had damaged the hangars, killing nearly 150 U.S troops. Fortunately, 1,000 troops and 50 aircraft were safely moved out of danger before the attack.Marine Gen. Kenneth McKenzie said that the Iraq strike had also threatened to destroy up to 30 aircraft. However, later the troops were given warning time to get into their bunkers.

Due to the blast over 100 service members suffered from brain injuries due to exposure. The ballistic missiles have now been seen as a real danger. In the previous month, a different type of attack occurred on the U.S Airbase. But now, the attack was by the Iranian forces through a drone strike. The drone has held the explosives. The U.S forces shot down the drone. However, it has disrupted the site, as certain images show a bulldozer clearing away the rubble.
