US Blacklisted World’s Largest Drone Maker DJI

US added DJI and other 7 Chinese companies to investment blacklist raising pressure on the Chinese economy. On Thursday Dec 17, the US Treasury Department announced that it has Blacklisted the firms due to their role in facilitating human rights abuses against the Uyghur Muslims based on China’s Xinjiang province. Also, the firms are accused of supporting Chinese government’s effort in repressing ethnic and religious minorities living in China. As a result, now American companies will be banned from buying or selling shares of those companies.

Brian Nelson, the undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence of US said that this highlights how private firms in China are supporting the Chinese government to repress the members from ethnic and minority community. However, US is ensuring that its financial systems and American companies do not support such activities, he said.

The Blacklisted firms are barred from purchasing US products or import US technology. Now they require special license. Dozens of other Chinese companies were added to US export blacklist in a bid to limit use of Chinese technologies or any other products for military purposes and conducting activities of human rights abuse. A week earlier before this announcement, the US has taken similar moves against two Chinese politicians and Chinese artificial intelligence firm, SenseTime.
